I don’t work in graphic design a lot, but experiment with it occasionally as a way to add more tools to my communications toolbox. I created this infographic to communicate the effectiveness of tracking sex offenders by gps.
Recent stories are questioning the effectiveness of GPS monitoring devices to track convicted sex offenders. A Los Angeles Times piece says that corrections officials “found the devices used in half the state were so inaccurate and unreliable that the public was “in imminent danger.” The National Institute of Justice released a study in 2012 that investigated the effectiveness of GPS units on a group of 1,000 parolees. While no method for monitoring parolees is 100% effective, the results of the study showed that GPS reduces the likelihood and increases the time until an act of noncompliance or recidivism occurs.
